5. Sami Zayn
The purest of NXT's babyfaces, Sami Zayn as a heel has taken everything that was great about that run and turned it up to eleven. Zayn has demonstrated that he is one of the best promos on the main roster by always being frantic and energetic in every encounter.
What's really special about this run however, is the motivation of Sami Zayn. He feels underappreciated by the company (let's be honest, he is!) and Sami uses his to his advantage. He calls himself the "champion of the people" and leading into his match with Bobby Lashley, has cemented himself as the Intercontinental Champion.
The Intercontinental Champion still has work rate to his advantage, particularly after the Triple Threat Ladder match at Clash of Champions. All Sami has done in-ring is tweak his original offence and add in more heelish tendencies. the spot with AJ Styles and handcuffs was incredibly smart. This demonstrates Zayn's intellect as a bad guy and gives him the respect of the audiences for being a crafty champion.
