8. Switching Plans
Frustration and demoralisation have been the leading feelings backstage in WWE in lieu of Vince McMahon's return to creative power, a position he'd promised, a position Paul 'Triple H' Levesque promised, and a position Nick Khan promised that he'd never return to. Said Vince, verbatim, when questioned on his role within WWE's creative team during his CNBC interview on 3 April, hours before his dispiriting Raw return:-
"On a higher level, yes. In the weeds, no. Can’t do that."
WWE under Levesque wasn't undamaged. He had a propensity at the onset of his run for serial cheap pops, re-signing a horde of budget cut victims who, in truth, weren't victims at all; they were better outside of WWE.
A redeeming quality of Papa H's regime, though, was his aptness to stick to the plan. This can be disadvantageous at times, of course - maintaining Karrion Kross as a main eventer in his first few months back when he was colder than Glacier was fishy, for example - but when it works, it really works.
Remarkably, WWE under Levesque's navigation purportedly had "a year of post-'Mania plans". The Raw after 'Mania, though, was not what was planned; that's been well-documented. Such plans as the reported Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus SummerSlam attraction, however, are still going ahead. Straying from these plans would've disheartened the audience and those involved, which is perhaps why Becky had a face like a slapped ar*e on the Monday after WrestleMania 39...
