10 Deadly Mistakes WWE Must NOT Make Before WrestleMania XL
7. Austin Theory, Top Star
Austin Theory did not stagger under the Paul Levesque regime - but he hardly blossomed.
Theory and 'The Game' go back to before the former was a WWE mainstay; Levesque had scouted Theory while he was in EVOLVE and was hands-on with his progress while in NXT. Vince McMahon, meanwhile, took Austin under his wing, inordinately pushing him, and in turn shattering any modicum of fan interest left that had itself already taken a whipping. A ruinous, objectless Money in the Bank win and needless continuous reigns as United States Champion did nothing to profit Theory, nor the briefcase/title.
So there's a solid chance it'll all happen again!
WWE sees Austin Theory as the next big thing in wrestling, in spite of his lack of any convincing main eventer qualities. He's good, not great, but being adequate is cause for a Vince McMahon creatively-led WWE to strap up. "Someone will like it", Vince will guffaw, that someone being him; he's his own biggest supporter.
Theory won't be written off. He's too young. WWE should instead play a waiting game with him before spontaneously deciding upon him as the next face of the company. Not every WWE lifer will be a headline-quality talent; for Theory, that ideology must ring true before it's too late.
