10 Dumb Stipulation Matches WWE Should Never Book Again

1. Dog Collar Match

In nearly all its variations, the strap match is a thrilling culmination to any feud. Two bitter enemies, tethered together head-to-head separated only by a length of rope, leather, or chain. There is, however, one version that is silly enough to undermine the whole concept.

What does a dog collar accomplish that a normal wrist-bound chain can't? Unless you have a dog gimmick like Junkyard Dog or Rob Steiner, how do you even write this into a storyline? Invariably, it comes off as forced, and wrestlers would be better suited with an Indian strap or bull rope between them.

There's a lot of old-school nostalgia associated with dog collar matches, the most notable being Greg Valentine and Roddy Piper's defining battle at Starrcade 1983. Jericho and Perry Saturn tried to emulate the classic in 1999 at WCW Uncensored, but it ended up exposing the stipulation for all that it shouldn't be -- goofy and overwrought. Yes, Cody and Mr. Brodie Lee proved last year that you can do dog collars right in the 2020s, but history shows there tends to be more bad than good when two rivals resort to canine couture.
