10 Dumbest Decisions Made By Seemingly Intelligent Wrestlers

5. Rey Mysterio Puts His WrestleMania Main Event On The Line

After alluding to this utter madness in our introduction, it's about time we put this dumbfounding decision under the microscope.

Rey Mysterio won the 2006 Royal Rumble, eliminating Randy Orton last after surviving in the match for 62 minutes - which was a Rumble record.

He dedicated this incredible performance to his recently fallen friend, Eddie Guerrero, and looked set to honour his memory on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

That was until Orton goaded Mysterio into a match at No Way Out. The 'Master of the 619' would also be putting his main event spot on the line after the 'Legend Killer' had continually disrespected his recently deceased friend.

Orton's plan worked a treat and Mysterio would lose the match, meaning that - at that point - he had thrown away his once-in-a-lifetime moment in order to try and teach a volatile specimen a lesson.

Mysterio would eventually be reinstated into the main event, but he made his coronation that little more complicated with the addition of Orton into the WrestleMania 22 match against World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle.

If Mysterio had just been wise enough to laugh off the vile urchin that was the despicable Orton, he would have found himself with a straightforward one-on-one match at the Show of Shows and Orton would have been left out of the title picture altogether.

Yet, pride was nearly his downfall and this stupid decision almost led to Mysterio not experiencing arguably his greatest moment inside a WWE ring, at all.
