Vince McMahon is possibly the most unlikely star of The Attitude Era. Hed been on TV for years and years as an announcer and commentator, but for a long time it was never even acknowledged that he owned the company. After the Montreal Screwjob, Vince was forced into the spotlight in a way he never had been before, and his feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin was the foundation that the entire Attitude Era was built around. Unfortunately, it gave Vince the idea that things are better if they involve McMahons or McMahon family drama. Even this past week on Raw we saw him return to undermine The Authority and set bogus stipulations. Its something hes been doing for a long time. One of the biggest mysteries during The Attitude Era was Who is the Higher Power behind The Ministry? and for months The Undertaker had been terrorising the McMahon family, and specifically Stephanie McMahon in a ploy to take over the WWF. So, when The Higher Power turned out to be Vince, it left fans scratching their heads. McMahon rationalised it as part of his ongoing vendetta against Stone Cold Steve Austin, but the reveal didnt hold up to much scrutiny. It was eventually somewhat saved a while later when Stephanie got back at her father for being the one responsible for her ordeal by marrying Triple H and staging it as an abduction. As entertaining as the ITS ME AUSTIN delivery and JRs reaction were, it just didnt make any sense.
