10 Dumbest WWE Title Changes

5. Triple H Wins Vacant Title (New Year's Revolution 2005)

One of WWE's all-time dumbest title changes wasn't a title change at all, so much as was a continuation of the status quo. (And nothing says status quo quite like Triple H wearing Raw's Big Gold belt around his slightly pudgy circa 2005 waist).

To be fair, stripping 'The Game' of the title after a dodgy finish to a November 2004 triple threat match wasn't entirely without purpose. It meant that they could set up an Elimination Chamber for the first ever New Year's Revolution early the next year, and perhaps - in some way or other - give Batista cause to doubt 'The Game's leadership credentials.

It's unlikely that many fans bought the show because the title had no owner though. Actually, if anything it probably made us all less convinced that there would be a genuine title change. If they were going to give us a new champion heading into WrestleMania, then why not just have Triple H lose it at NYR itself?

The cynics said that it was all just a ploy to help Triple H edge closer to Ric Flair's world title record, but now that he seems happy to settle on 14 reigns, that is perhaps a bit of a stretch.
