10 Events That Led To The Demise Of WCW

4. Bret Hart's Concussion

Although many (myself included) would argue that Bret Hart was severely misused while under contract with WCW, it is hard to argue that he was one of the company€™s most recognizable stars in 1999. At the time, Hart was involved in a feud with Goldberg for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Hart would capture the title that night in a decision that resembled the Montreal screwjob. The match not only featured a poorly booked ending that amounted to a terrible work trying to duplicate an irreplicable shoot, it also marked the beginning of the end for Hart. Goldberg was notoriously aloof in the ring, as he caused a number of injuries over the years due to his poor training. This is exactly what happened with Hart at Starrcade after Goldberg executed a kick to Hart's head that landed and caused a severe concussion. Hart would eventually be forced to retire and some have said that Goldberg's kick was one of the main contributing factors to Hart having a stroke several years later. The night would mark the end of one of the company's biggest stars and left the roster even more depleted.
