Injuries plagued the 1994 Royal Rumble somewhat, as three of the wrestlers announced for the match required substitutions. The aforementioned Borga was due to pull double-duty, but because of his ankle injury, newcomer Kwang (Savio Vega as a masked ninja) took his place in the Rumble match.

The same night that Borga was injured, The 123 Kid hurt his knee during the MSG Rumble match, and missed about a month of action. His replacement was another newcomer, Thurman "Sparky" Plugg, the friendly racecar driver who, with a few gimmick tweaks, would eventually become Hardcore Holly.

Finally, Kamala, who hadn't been seen since July 1993, was announced as a participant, but did not appear. His fill-in ended up being Virgil, who was fed to Diesel as part of the Vince McMahon edict, "Make Kevin Look Strong."
