10 Great SmackDown Matches From WWE's Original Brand Split
5. Rey Mysterio Vs. Eddie Guerrero (23 June 2005)
Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero were best friends and the top tag team on SmackDown, but once they lost the titles to MNM, their relationship started to crumble. Eventually, Guerrero turned on Mysterio, beating him senseless and tearing off his mask.
The two men battled at Judgment Day 2005, but Guerrero couldn't control his hatred; he hit Mysterio with a chair, drawing a disqualification. Needless to say, the program continued, with the two locking horns on the 23 June 2005 episode of SmackDown.
The match, which lasted about 30 minutes, started slow, but quickly built up to a fever pitch. Mysterio knocked Guerrero to the ropes and attempted a 619, but Guerrero came back with a thunderous clothesline. After that, he locked in the Camel Clutch. Rey escaped, but Eddie came back with the Three Amigos, then attempted a Frog Splash. Mysterio moved out of the way, then reversed a powerbomb and sent Eddie to the ropes. From there, he was finally able to hit the 619, then drop the dime for the win.
After the match, Eddie simply smiled in foreboding fashion... he was frustrated, but he had just made the decision to share a secret that would change Rey's life.
