10 Great Wrestlers And Their Terrible Impersonators
9. Sin Cara Azul - Sin Cara Negro
Poor Sin Cara, he never stood a chance. When the first thing you do on your first day in a wrestling promotion is botch your ring entrance, that's not a good start. If the next thing you do is get involved in a confusing feud with a doppelgänger before the audience even know who you are, it's a recipe for disaster. A few months after debuting, the Faceless One was suspended for 30 days due to his first violation of the WWE Wellness Policy (that was fast), but they didn't actually take the character of Sin Cara off TV for that long. Developmental wrestler Jorge Arias, aka Hunico, began wrestling on TV in the original Sin Cara's stead, turning the character heel in the process. The original Sin Cara, thereafter known as Sin Cara Azul, returned and vowed to defeat the imposter Sin Cara, thereafter known as Sin Cara Negro. Why was any of this happening? It was never made clear. The two men had an underwhelming match at Hell in a Cell, followed by a Mask vs Mask match on Smackdown, after which Negro was unmasked and exposed as Hunico. The whole angle felt like a somewhat-earnest attempt by WWE to impersonate a lucha libre style of booking. It was about stolen personalities, honour and betrayal, all ending with a Lucha de Apuestas ("gambling fight"), but fell flat because Sin Cara really wasn't over with the fans enough for the angle to feel big. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyGxxRCsspo Ironically, Sin Cara Azul would later leave WWE, and the character of Sin Cara would once again be taken up by Hunico, the imposter.
