As soon as Bret Hart and Davey Boy Smith locked up inside Wembley Stadium at SummerSlam 1992, the 'Hitman' knew he was in for a long-assed night. Smith admitted to his brother-in-law that he'd pretty much forgotten everything they'd planned for their Intercontinental Title match, and Bret began to sigh.

He wrote in his must-read autobiography that he had to hold the Bulldog's hand throughout the entire 25-minute match and lead him through it. That was made harder by the fact that Davey Boy was sucking wind around 10 minutes into the thing. This is a match Hart considers one of his greatest ever solo performances.

Bret called everything.

The Canadian legend didn't have a choice. This was sink or swim, and it was his chance to show Vince McMahon just how good he was as a headliner. So, he carefully laid out each coming spot for Davey and made both of them look like stars.

Side note: it does take 'two to tango', as they say. Bulldog deserves praise for following orders and being good enough to make it look natural. Still, Bret does merit 99% of the credit for how good the match turned out.
