10 Great WWE Matches With One Notable Botch
8. Finn Bálor Vs. Seth Rollins (SummerSlam 2016)
There's a reason you don't see the Buckle Bomb anymore.
SummerSlam 2016 was the first major pay-per-view to take place after the second brand split. Since the WWE Championship was exclusive to SmackDown, the Universal Championship was created to give Raw stars something to fight over. Well, at least when Brock Lesnar wasn't around.
The two men chosen to fight over this new belt were Seth Rollins, then a heel, and recent NXT call-up, Finn Bálor.
Naturally, this match between Tyler Black and Prince Devitt was excellent. The two had instant chemistry with one another, but there was something just a little off about the the fight. Later, we found out that something was wrong with Bálor's shoulder.
When Rollins delivered his trademark Buckle Bomb into the barricade outside, Bálor's shoulder landed awkwardly on the top of the padding, which was enough to tear his labrum muscle.
To his credit, Finn finished the match and pinned Rollins following a Coup de Grace. However, his championship celebration was cut short to just 24 hours, as the very next night on Raw Bálor was forced to vacate the Universal title due to his injured shoulder.
Bálor's title reign wasn't what it could have been, but at least he managed to pull off a great match even with an injury. Not that the fans in attendance noticed. They were too busy booing the belt design.
