9 Great WWE Storylines That Were Dropped Way Too Quickly

5. Owen Hart Becomes The 'Black Hart'

It's remarkable that Owen Hart agreed to stay in the WWF after his brother, Bret was screwed horrendously at the 1997 Survivor Series Pay-Per-View. For his part, the 'Hitman' has since noted that Vince McMahon threatened legal action against Owen if he didn't see out his contract with the company, which would seem to make sense.

Whatever the case, the promotion had a surefire plan up their sleeves to ensure that Owen was able to finally become the top star he had threatened to be for many years. Returning in December to WWF screens, Owen started referring to himself as the 'Black Hart', and showed a genuine mean streak that people were really digging.

Instead of capitalising on this newfound anti-hero vibe, Owen was back to being a smiling babyface within just a few months, and faced Triple H for the European Title in a mid-card match at WrestleMania XIV. Why wasn't he given the chance to sink his teeth into the 'Black Hart' character? It's clear the angle could have been tremendous if creative had been behind it.
