Butch Reed and Ron Simmons would both find varying levels of success away from one another in the WWF/WWE. Simmons would be the most fruitful, not only individually as Faarooq, but also as one half of The APA with John 'Bradshaw' Layfield. For his part, Reed would experience a few years as 'The Natural' from 1986-1988 in the federation.

After leaving the WWF, Reed returned to the NWA and shortly thereafter formed the team of Doom with Simmons. Originally, the pair were managed by Woman and went under masks, which did little to conceal their identities. Despite that unintentionally hilarious aesthetic, they were a fine tag-team between the ropes.

Reed and Simmons were only together for a few years, and did eventually unmask to show their faces. Fans weren't exactly surprised to find out who was underneath the masks, but throwing away the head gear didn't diminish their effectiveness.

Akin to teams like The Powers Of Pain and Demolition, Doom were a power-based unit that would have only added to the WWF during that era. Their African-American heritage also helped differentiate the team from other, similar duos.
