10 Greatest Title Changes In NXT History

6. American Alpha Beat The Revival – TakeOver: Dallas

Oh, look. Two more tag teams that got shafted on the main roster!

Yay!

NXT TakeOver: Dallas was the first of its kind to be held over WrestleMania Weekend, so the stakes were high for those on the card that night.

The matches that night lived up to the hype; Finn Bálor defended his NXT title in a bloody main event with Samoa Joe, Asuka began her record-smashing NXT Women’s Championship reign by defeating Bayley, and Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura carried the “Fight Forever” Indy chant over to WWE with their outstanding match.

What is often overlooked about this show is the match that opened the whole thing; an NXT Tag Team Championship match pitting champions, The Revival, against challengers, American Alpha.

Jason Jordan and Chad Gable’s coming together story was one of the most heart-warming stories WWE had told in a long time, as fans fell in love with Gable’s goofy antics and both men’s insane in-ring ability. There wasn’t a single person routing for Dash and Dawson in Dallas that night.

Luckily, this meant nobody went home unhappy, as Jordan and Gable defeated The Revival to become NXT Tag Team Champions for the first time, a victory so emotional that it brought Jordan, who had been in WWE’s developmental system for nearly five years at this point, to tears.

A great match and a victory that couldn’t have happened to two nicer guys, American Alpha might be a distant memory now, but fans will always remember this wonderful moment from a truly wonderful night of wrestling.
