10 Greatest Ultimate Opportunists In WWE History

1. Triple H

Triple H may very well be the greatest opportunist in wrestling history.

Not counting all of the backstage opportunities that he took advantage of, eventually leading to his political rise and everything that has come with it, he has proven on numerous occasions on-screen that he is always prepared to take any chance that comes his way.

The night after WrestleMania XIV and Shawn Michaels' final match for four years, Triple H stepped up to the plate and assumed leadership of D-Generation X. The promo he cut that night, as well as the formation of a new DX allowed him to enjoy his greatest run to date.

When Vince McMahon and The Rock turned babyface in the fall of 1999 and The Undertaker took a hiatus to heal injuries, he became the de facto lead heel. Not always a smooth ride, he eventually developed a persona that would become the most hated in all of professional wrestling, though not without a little help from the youngest of McMahon's children.

And what about those infamous backstage stories?

With Vince Russo having moved onto WCW and creative left without a suitable angle for the grand wedding between Test and Stephanie McMahon, Triple H stepped up to the plate and offered his own idea: he would interrupt the proceedings and reveal that he had already married a drugged Stephanie.

That one suggestion, ultimately taken by Vince, led to Triple H becoming one of the three biggest stars in the industry and a performer around whom entire shows would be built.

On-screen, Triple H would continue seizing opportunities, confronting Eric Bischoff on the 2 September 2002 episode of Raw to be handed the brand's world title proving the most obvious.

Whether he was manipulating things in his favor behind the scenes or earning disdain for his opportunistic ways on television, Triple H more than belongs at the top of this list.
