Its very easy to overlook just how important The Road Warriors were to professional wrestling. They were easily the most popular tag team of the nineteen-eighties wherever they went, and they spawned a bevy of imitators across the country, most notably WWFs Demolition. Road Warrior Hawk and Road Warrior Animal were introduced to Georgia Championship Wrestling as part of Paul Ellerings Legion of Doom stable but soon the LoD would come to refer to just the duo. The Legion of Doom were not only a terrifying force to be reckoned with inside the ring, but on the microphone as well. Their intense promos were unlike anything anyone had seen at the time, and fans were captivated. Their promos would usually follow the formula of Animal starting off, before handing over to Hawk and both men were as good as each other on the microphone. Although they started out as monster heels, fans were so entertained by their destructive antics they quickly became major good guys without changing a thing. The Road Warriors joined the WWF in 1990 and immediately clashed with Demolition, but it was too little, too late, as Demolition Ax was being phased out due to heath issues and Demolition Crush was being groomed as his replacement. As a result, the big blowoff match was a six-man tag with Ultimate Warrior joining the LoD. While there have been multiple iterations of the Road Warriors, including the much derided Heidenreich era, theres no touching the originals and fans around the world know that the talking stops and the violence begins when they hear Wurrrgh!
