10 Greatest WWE Stables Of The Past 10 Years

5. Straight Edge Society

The Straight Edge Society didn't last long, but presented CM Punk at his megalomaniacal best.

The group's roots were planted during Punk's feud with Jeff Hardy in 2009, during which the straight-edger would make constant allusions to his foe's drug usage. Punk continued this theme over the coming months, and recruited the formerly unresponsive Festus to become the dangerous Luke Gallows in November, claiming that alcohol was responsible for his old mental state.

The duo started shaving the heads of planted audience members who wanted to convert to the drug/alcohol-free lifestyle, which is how Serena Deeb came into the group. She had her hair cut after begging to join the faction in January, and they became a trio, with Serena and Gallows a constant presence alongside their "saviour." Joey Mercury would join the SES in July, but lasted just two months, as they disbanded in September.

Punk's sidekicks were great supporting players, but the former WWE Champion was the real highlight. A twisted, evangelical preacher, he leaned heavily on his real-life convictions to turn him into a near-messianic figure at the head of his straight edge cult, resulting in some of his career's most compelling mic work.
