10 Hardcore Japanese Wrestling Stipulations You Won't Believe Are Real

3. Piranha Death Match

Nope.

This is the first, but unfortunately not the last entry in this list that features innocent animals being dragged into such nonsense. While it's normal hard to warm to piranha, being tiny little psychotic Jokers of the sea, it not nice to take a living thing and throw a lunatic on top of it. Which is what happened to dozens of piranha in this matchup.

In the centre of the ring sat a large fish tank. Inside the fish tank were lots of toothy swimming friends. There were also boards covered in barbed wire lying around the ring because Japanese promoters buy barbed wire in bulk and they're going to get their damn money's worth.

The match ends when you beat down your opponent so much that you can hold them in the tank for 10 seconds.

Cue endless minutes of basketcases trying to force each other into a tank, all the while making sure to bleed into the water, just the make sure the little buggers were awake and hungry.

Perhaps you recognise Matsunaga from the Double Hell Fire Death Match (not to be confused with the Hellfire Death Match)? He's the fellow that ends up in the tank. And not just inside; the other wrestler places a barbed wire board on top of him while he's in the water and lies on top of it just for good measure. It takes a team of referees to pull him off.

Come on, we're so close to the end.
