Unhappy with his standing in the WWF of the early-to-mid-90's, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage was less than content to sit behind the announce desk and act as an aging ambassador for Vince McMahon. Feeling he still had a lot left in his tank, Savage elected to join WCW in 1994, something which appeared to be taken as a stab in the back from McMahon and the WWF. Simply put, Savage wanted to wrestle more often, and that was something WCW's top brass offered him. Further to that point, those folks down in Atlanta also offered the guy a hell of a lot of money, guaranteed. Realising that Savage was still a top name in the wrestling world, and that fans desperately wanted to see him work, WCW offered a basic $1 million per year contract, with huge bonuses on top. Those bonuses were related to merchandise sales and Pay-Per-View revenue for top matches against the likes of Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and others. Obviously, due to those matches, Savage netted more money, as he also did for image rights in WCW video games and for his appearance in the WCW-produced 'Ready To Rumble' movie.
