8. Freddie Blassie And Andy Kaufman On Late Night With David Letterman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HiYETwtXj4 In 1981, actor Wallace Shawn made a critically-acclaimed movie called My Dinner With Andre where he interviewed avant-garde filmmaker Andre Gregory. It was weird enough that it was ripe for parody, and Andy Kaufman was the first to bite with My Breakfast With Blassie, in which he interviewed Freddie Blassie (still an active WWF manager) in a diner. Set to be shown at small "midnight movie" theaters and the like, it eventually became a cult classic on home video. With Kaufman being one of Letterman's favorite guests, he was invited onto Late Night with Blassie to promote the film's release. Blassie is in complete grumpy grandpa mode and it's a delight. After showing off bloody photos from his career and making the usual proclamations (talking about drawing a record crowd at the Los Angeles Coliseum, Japanese TV viewers suffering heart attacks during his first tour of their country, etc), he announces that he's now managing Andy's entertainment career. That's not just acting and wrestling: It also includes singing, so he ordered Andy to join The World's Most Dangerous Band onstage and sing "Jambalaya," which he did. Terribly. Dave: "That was the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life." Freddie: "It only goes to show you don't know good talent!"
