Following his legitimate departure from WWE in June 2010, fans lobbied hard to get Daniel Bryan back in the company, but to no avail. Chants for the American Dragon at arenas across the country died down after a while, making his return during SummerSlam's main event all the more shocking.

Instead of joining the fight against The Nexus, Bryan had unfinished business with The Miz upon his return. In addition to shutting up his former mentor, he also looked to take his United States Championship at Night of Champions.

By this point, he was still relatively new to the WWE scene, so the odds were significantly stacked against him. Bryan battled hard with the Chicago crowd in his corner, and by locking in his patented LaBelle Lock submission hold, he forced Miz to tap out and clinched his first United States Championship.

From there, no one thought Bryan would amount to the success that he did. It was only a little less than four years later that he was headlining WrestleMania for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. And it all started at Night of Champions.
