10 Huge Wrestling Matches That Were Put On The Scrap Heap

10. Chris Benoit vs. CM Punk (Vengeance 2007)

Right off the bat, there's a glaring reason why this bout didn't take place. Chris Benoit would never show up at the Vengeance Pay-Per-View in 2007, which seemed really odd for such a hard-working, proud pro wrestler. The reason why would be revealed in days to come, after Benoit - along with his wife and young son - were found dead at his home. Clearly, what had become known as the 'Benoit Tragedy' is one of the biggest and most horrible situations to ever arise from the world of pro wrestling. Much has been written about it, and rightly so, it was an incident deserving of shed loads of attention. Sadly, from a pure wrestling perspective, fans would never get to see what would surely have been an excellent ECW Championship match between Benoit and CM Punk. The latter was starting to come into his own, finally convincing WWE he was worthy of being on the roster, and this match would have only enhanced that growing reputation. Benoit vs. Punk is one 'dream' bout that fans will never see, and the wrestling world is much poorer for it.
