Gunther and Tomohiro Ishii are two of the toughest and hardest-hitting fellas, not just in wrestling but all of sport. The slaps, the punches, the headbutts, they've got enough to bring down buildings. But you'll be let down if you want to see them go at it on a grand stage.

Now, this is a fine example of a dream match you probably didn't know has already happened. Gunther (then known as Walter) and Ishii put on an epic display for Revolution Pro Wrestling in 2018, and it was just as brutal as you would expect.

While a great match in an indie promotion is lovely, there's no doubt that the two could work up something very special if given a grander stage. With the right build, arena, and crowd, this could be utter magic. That is if your idea of magic is two grown men smacking the life out of each other.

Unfortunately, once again, that forbidden door is likely never going to open.

Gunther is thriving in WWE, having recently broken the record as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time, and the company will not want to share him. Additionally, Ishii's grounded style wouldn't appeal to WWE execs, so it's unlikely they'd pick him even if they were willing to bring an NJPW talent over.
