10 Infamous Shoot Moments When WWE Got Real

1. David Schultz Vs. A Reporter

It may seem strange that any moment could rank higher than the Montréal Screwjob, but in David Schultz’s backstage spat with news reporter John Stossel, I think we’ve found our exception.

On 28th December, 1984, during an interview at a WWF TV show, Stossel told Schultz that he thought wrestling was fake. Clearly it was a risky move, and one that backfired in spectacular fashion. Schultz responded by twice clobbering Stossel and knocking him to the ground, which left him with “possible permanent pain and buzzing in the ears” up to eight weeks after the assault. Allegedly.

“What the hell's the matter with you?” were Schultz’s final words, as the pot called the kettle black. I’m all for standing up for what you believe in, but this one probably crossed the line of what you can and can't do to other human beings. Either way, it certainly crossed the line between fiction and reality.

While it may not be most infamous shoot moment within the wrestling world, per sé, the coverage it received from mainstream news outlets arguably makes this more infamous in the bigger picture.
