Heading into day two of G1 Special in USA, four men were still in the running for the United States Championship - Jay Lethal, Kenny Omega, Zack Sabre Jr., and Tomohiro Ishii. Needless to say, all four guys are world-class talents, but only two would end up advancing to compete for the belt.

Omega and Ishii ended up defeating their opponents, but what could have been throwaway matches designed to save energy for the main event were both very good - albeit different - bouts. Omega-Lethal saw "The Cleaner" target the former ROH Champion's injured ribs, with both men trying to put an end to the match early. Meanwhile, Sabre stepped outside his comfort zone in trying to brawl with Ishii, but ended up resorting to submissions to work on "The Stone Pitbull's" arms.

Giving these matches time and focus meant that Lethal and Sabre both came out looking strong. Both men will undoubtedly make great contenders for the United States Title in the future.
