10 Longest Reigning ECW World Heavyweight Champions

9. CM Punk - 143 Days

Had Paul Heyman stuck around longer, I dare say Punk's only championship run in ECW may have featured a little higher up on this list. As it is, my memories of Punk as ECW Champion are fairly limited, as it always seemed that he was just chasing the strap from either John Morrison or Chavo Guerrero, of all people. Maybe Punk would have been booked to defeat Chris Benoit at Vengeance in 2007 for the title, we'll never know. As it was Morrison took home the title, and the next couple of months saw Punk and Morrison put on stinker after stinker with Punk continually unable to win. Their final meeting would be their best, as Punk pulled out the win in a Last Chance match on ECW TV in September 2007. 143 days later the Straight Edge Superstar dropped the belt to Chavo, after interference from Edge. Bigger things were on the horizon for Punk however.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
