One of the most frustrating sights heading into and during this year's Show of Shows was that of Trish Stratus and Lita being presented as little more than filler performers in what could've unquestionably been an absolutely start-studded smash-hit.

In those two icons alone you have a pair of ladies who have arguably influenced the current generation of ridiculously talented ladies more than anyone else. And more than that, the one-time rivals have both proven they can still definitely go in-between the ropes, too.

But rather than make the most of Hall of Fame heroes, a set of stars who could've helped elevate the future of WWE's women's division, Trips just shuffled Lita and Stratus into Becky Lynch and Bayley's already tired war. And the end results were predictably as forgettable as the build-up.

The same could be said of John Cena's Mania US title challenge, too, with not much really being done to hype up Theory's eventual lacklustre battle with Super Cena outside of the Hollywood star completely burying the full-time mid-card company golden boy.

There's still a way to infuse icons of the business into the modern day madness without making all involved look and feel less valuable heading out of it. Just look at the way Stone Cold's Mania 38 showing impacted KO's trajectory in the aftermath.

So, when WrestleMania XL does come into view in 2024, WWE would be wise to stay clear of the prior year's toxic legend formula.
