10 Memorable WWE Matches From Forgettable Pay-Per-Views

1. Bret Hart Vs. Shawn Michaels (Survivor Series 1997)

One of the most famous wrestling matches of all time happened on one of the most average pay-per-views ever. Fancy that.

There really isn't much else to say about The Montreal Screwjob that hasn't already been said. Bret wants to leave. Vince doesn't want Bret to leave as champion. Vince screws Bret (or does Bret screw Bret?). Bret spits in Vince's face. We all live happily ever after. Except for Bret.

It's probably the most controversial and pivotal match in wrestling's modern history and the show on which it took place, 1997's edition of Survivor Series, is now so associated with this match that its hard to imagine one without thinking of the other. Which is a good thing, because the rest of the show kind of sucked.

The rest of these matches read like a who's who of forgotten Attitude Era "stars". The traditional elimination matches pitted teams like The Truth Commission against The Disciples of Apocalypse, whilst forgotten gems like Doug Furnas and Phil Lafon filled out other squads.

All of this is irrelevant anyway, because we'd still only be talking about The Screwjob no matter what show it took place on.

Maybe one day we'll move on. Maybe.
