10 Mistakes WWE Has Made With WrestleMania 33
8. New Day As Hosts
Last year, the New Day participated in a forgettable match against the League of Nations (RIP), before dancing with Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley and Stone Cold Steve Austin. It was a non-title bout that ended in a loss for The New Day, and seemed more like an opportunity for some Hall of Fame shenanigans.
It seems as though their roles have been minimized even more this year, as Xavier Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston are ‘hosting’ WrestleMania. To reduce The New Day to glorified comperes does a great disservice to their in-ring talents. Sure, their main selling point is their charisma and ability to shout memorable catchphrases, but to go from Tag Team Champs to conducting backstage segments feels like a waste.
It could severely impact upon the rest of the show, too. WrestleMania 33 is pretty much guaranteed to last at least seven hours (pre-show included), and if more time is taken from matches and given to The New Day, the show will really start to drag its weight. It could even reverse The New Day’s babyface run one year after it started.
