10 Mistakes WWE Made With Alberto Del Rio
6. Regaining The Title From Kalisto
When Kalisto won the title from Del Rio on the Jan. 11
episode of Raw, I remember thinking it may have been a little premature. Why not
have him capture the gold at the upcoming Royal Rumble PPV later on that month? Or
better yet, have him hang on until WrestleMania to make for an even more
memorable coronation.
Still, I was willing to overlook all that idealist, fantasy booking nonsense and see what was in store for Kalisto as champ.
Three days later on Thursday Night SmackDown, I had my resounding answer; Kalisto surrendered the title straight back to Del Rio in what was the shortest reign of the WWE era.
I get that they wanted to create a shocking moment, but in the end this game of hot potato did more bad than good for both competitors, not least because Del Rio himself would once again lose the belt in just 11 more days at the Royal Rumble.
Holding onto the title until the Rumble at least - and maybe even longer - would have likely been much more beneficial for Del Rio, and might also have aided Kalisto too.
