By the year 2000, the WWF could seemingly do no wrong. Kurt Angle, who had emerged as one of the most natural rookies in company history, was ready to win the King Of The Ring. Elsewhere, The Rock was going to win the WWF Title from Triple H in a bumper 6-man tag-team main event.

The card for the pay-per-view was stacked, no less than 11 matches took place on the show, with a quartet of others hosted on Sunday Night Heat. On the pre-show, Hardcore Holly had to be happy with a win over Gangrel, and The Acolytes defeated the odd team of Perry Saturn and D'Lo Brown.

Meanwhile, during the King Of The Ring, Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson were allotted some minutes ahead of these matches to inelegantly stumble around in women's lingerie. Both old-timers worked the first ever 'Hardcore Evening Gown' bout, fighting for the WWF Hardcore Title.

At the time, Brisco and Patterson were portrayed as stooges to Vince McMahon. Their whole presentation was played for laughs, but this was taking things to a whole new level. Nobody needed to see an elderly man's behind in frilly panties.
