10 Most Brutal WCW Matches Ever

5. War Games (WrestleWar 1991)

While War Games matches are almost always spectacular brawls, filled with blood, this version is memorable for something else. It saw a man's career nearly ended right in the middle of the ring, before our eyes. Here, we have Sting teaming with Brian Pillman and the Steiners (Rick & Scott) to take on the team of Ric Flair, Sid Vicious, Barry Windham and Larry Zbyszko. Almost immediately, Windham is bleeding, and the match picks up from there. There is good pacing, good entry order, solid performances from all, and a hot crowd. Blood is staining the ring, the ropes, as well as the cage, making for great visuals as the match continues on. Sid was doing a number on Pillman and beating him down, but then came the unscripted part. Sid lifted Pillman up for a Powerbomb, but because the roof of the cage was so low, Pillman's head and neck slam into it on the way up. Sid delivers the move, anyway, then picks Pillman up to do it again. This time, the roof of the cage affects the move, and it causes Sid to basically drop Pillman on his head on the way down. Word is that Pillman was temporarily paralyzed, and not knowing what else to do, El Gigante was sent to the ring to throw in the towel, bringing the match to an unintended ending. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xz7lse_14-91-02-24-wargames-wrestlewar_sport Realistically, the roof of the cage had no business being so low. Not with taller wrestlers involved, and not with someone who goes to the top rope frequently. Also, you have no idea what Sid was thinking going for the Powerbomb the second time. He nearly killed Pillman on the first try, and that should have been the sign not to do it again. It was something that came within a half-inch of adding brutality to the match for all the wrong reasons.
