3. Magnum T.A. VS Tully Blanchard (Starrcade 1985)
If you're ever looking for one of professional wrestling's all-time "What if...?" scenarios, look no further than Magnum TA. Insanely popular, with everything needed to become a huge star, Magnum was well on his way to becoming the NWA's version of Hulk Hogan until a car accident destroyed his back and ended his career not even one year after this match took place. This match was an "I Quit" Match taking place inside a steel cage, making it two gimmicks in one, but it had to happen, as their feud had been building for several months. The crowd is hot from the start, with Magnum being that up-and-coming main event player, and Tully being one of the Four Horsemen, who were all heat magnets. Moments in, Magnum is already opened up on the forehead after tasting the steel. After that, Tully's arm came up bleeding, leading Magnum to work the arm, trying to get him to quit. There was plenty of drama with the "I Quit" format, as both men would stick a microphone in their opponent's face and scream at them to say those two words. Tully was a similar worker to Ric Flair, able to work incredibly smart matches, and this was no different. He made every move mean something when he was on offense, and he made Magnum look like a million bucks when he was on the receiving end. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x32jse_magnum-ta-vs-tully-blanchard-steel_sport Both men did a great job in making this look much more like a fight than a wrestling match. It wasn't about them going out there and performing pretty moves on each other for 20 minutes and then going into "I Quit" mode. They were punching and kicking and doing everything you would expect to see in an actual fight. The ending, involving a broken shard from a wooden chair, is one of the more famous in wrestling history, and showed just how badly this match needed to be won.
