If a tree falls in a forest, etc etc. NXT UK is the forgotten corner of the WWE Universe, a world where things happen but nobody seems to be particularly bothered about them, where a generation of British stars take it in turns to feud with each other much to the mild interest of fans here and there. The roster is full of tremendous talent, world-class performers who are stuck in corporate purgatory. The global pandemic hasn't helped, but NXT UK was struggling before the onset of COVID-19.

In amongst it all, Kay Lee Ray was carving herself a niche as a captivating heel champion. She defeated Toni Storm for the belt and retained against the same opponent in an I Quit match, ridding herself of that albatross and setting out into pastures new. Still only 27, the Scottish Hardcore Daredevil could be a vital part of WWE's female roster moving forward.

Despite all those positives, Kay Lee Ray's reign is dominant in numbers only. The pandemic has ensured that. She has been champion for almost a whole year, yet she has only defended the title twice. The NXT UK Women's Championship has long suffered from this problem. It has been active for nearly two years, yet has only been competed for on 11 televised occasions.

Still, numbers are numbers.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
