10 Most Flamboyant Wrestling Characters That Made Fans Cringe
2. Johnny B. Badd
It's been said that the legendary 'American Dream' Dusty Rhodes was responsible for coming up with the Johnny B. Badd character in the early-1990's. The man the gimmick was designed for, Marc Mero, had a passing resemblance to rock n' roll star, Little Richard. Thus, the character was designed, and Mero effectively learned how to be a wrestler by portraying Badd. At first, the guy was a heel, which made perfect sense. Flamboyant and in-your-face, Johnny B. Badd was managed by Teddy Long. After a short while, the decision was made to try and turn him babyface. That's where the wheels started to fall off for Mero in WCW, fans simply did not want to cheer him. This could be put down to a homophobic attitude, but it was never said that Johnny B. Badd was gay. Instead, it's likely that a lot of fans - male and female - simply found him too garish and unlikable. Adorned in pink feather boas and caked in make-up, Badd also carried a special gun that shot confetti into the crowd. People were far from amused by what they were seeing.
