Arguments can be made about how putting the Intercontinental Championship on Daniel Bryan would elevate the belt (he sadly never got chance to show whether or not that was the case), but from the second it was teased to the moment he won, it still felt like a demotion. There's just no way that going from headlining WrestleMania in a match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to to competing in a ladder match with Superstars who hadn't been involved in a meaningful storyline for years could be seen as anything but. Bryan would have been better served being put into a meaningful feud with Sheamus as was rumoured so at least he would have had a marquee match of sorts. Instead, he was put with the rest of the afterthoughts and a step away from the Andre the Giant Battle Royal.
