Shane Douglas was the talk of the wrestling industry in 1994, as the mouthpiece and unofficial leader of the renegade ECW promotion that was turning the business on its head with revolutionary storytelling and a previously-unseen hardcore style.

An embittered Douglas had particular venom for Ric Flair, following booking disputes from the pair's days together in WCW and the long-held opinion that 'The Nature Boy' was long past his sell-by date.

In response to the famous 'Four Horseman' group, Douglas created his 'Triple Threat', a devastating unit comprising of himself as ECW World Champion and tag champions Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko.

Aping the legendary hand signal, the trio stuck out three fingers, with Douglas espousing that they could do more than enough damage without the need for another heavy.

As three of the most technically superior wrestlers in the world, the group were dominant over the Extreme outfit, so much so that they'd all be cherrypicked away from Philadelphia in 1995.

Though 'The Franchise' would return from a disappointing WWF run in January 1996, Benoit and Malenko would find greater success after their autumn move to WCW, and Douglas would be forced to lead inferior retreads of the group for the remainder of his ECW tenure.
