Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels are good friends. Shawn was continually pushed throughout his time with the company, and while he hasn’t always been the most popular guy backstage, Vince has always welcomed him back to the company after every hiatus. The fact that Michaels was still being paid by WWE during his first retirement period adds further fuel to the fire that he and Vince had a “special” relationship, and it doesn’t help that wrestlers like Road Warrior Hawk have stated this story like it was a fact in the past.
Those who subscribe to this theory will tell you that the only reason Shawn was pushed with such prominence is because there was something going on between him and Vince. Nothing to do with his marketability, popularity, and near-perfect skillset, I’m sure...
