10 Most Insanely Popular TNA Matches Ever

4. Abyss Vs. Bully Ray (Genesis 2012)

Abyss was correlated to Mick Foley a lot throughout his TNA tenure - but he took those similarities in his stride.

A key player for much of TNA's history, Abyss took on the challenge of being the modern-day Mick Foley, brutalising and defacing his body as he endured a series of gruelling matches, stunts, and dehumanising weapon spots to turn the purported blasphemy into commendation of his work. The Foley comparisons did nothing to hurt Abyss' career; this, instead, was a scarce illustration of the curse of comparison benefitting the second coming.

Abyss' Genesis 2012 match vs. Bully Ray - contested under the immortal rules of Monster's Ball - was among the last few comparable matches that linked 'The Monster' to 'The Hardcore Legend'. The spiritual successor to Mick Foley's most barbaric brawls, the bloodthirstiness was immeasurable, and although not quite as grimacing as some of the earlier Monster's Ball matches, Abyss and Ray cemented themselves in Monster's Ball's legacy with what transpired to be one of TNA's last true great matches of the TNA era.

At 13 million views on YouTube, the match is deserving of more. No bullsh*terry, no senseless LOLTNA run-ins, no so-dumb-it's-the-best over-the-top spots; just a slaughterous, ruthless match that perfectly encapsulated the spirit of Monster's Ball.
