4. Grado

Despite numerous clear deficiencies that would traditionally prevent most from achieving anything in the business, Grado has nevertheless become the most unlikely of internet wrestling sensations.

The key has been personality. As part of Insane Championship Wrestling, Ayrshire-born Grado utilised his infectious, entertaining persona to endear himself to an already loyal and fervent local crowd. The man became a myth, as legends of the character spread across the British wrestling scene memetically. Soon, TNA were interested.

The company could see that despite his limited wrestling ability, Grado's natural wit and effervescent charisma were enough to compensate for his physical flaws. As such, they set up an elaborate angle for their worked TNA British Boot Camp show that would position Grado as the rank underdog for the tournament, eventually rewarding him with a contract.

Grado is not a likely candidate for WWE at all; he in no way fits the mould of what is expected from a 'superstar'. Yet that doesn't matter to the fans, as he has proved in his career already. WWE could do with as much personality on their TV as possible.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
