10 Most Notorious Mick Foley Urban Legends

9. Would Listen To Beautiful Pop Music Before His Most Violent Battles

Story: A lifelong fan of her music, Mick Foley would often listen to Tori Amos and other assorted pop acts backstage before some of his most brutal matches. For example, before taking on Vader in a WCW bout that was sure to be pain-filled, Foley - as Cactus Jack - found a quiet place in the locker room, and sat down to listen to Amos and her music in an attempt to get himself motivated for the war zone he was about to enter. That wasn't the only example, the wrestler would quite often listen to slow ballads and pretty sappy music whilst riding from town-to-town, because it helped inspire him to visualise his upcoming matches and what he could do during them. It's fairly common for music to relax people, but the idea of someone listening to Tori Amos before taking part in a wrestling match that involved barbed wire is quite strange. Why People BelieveIt: Much like the previous entry, Foley's books act as evidence here, because they are filled with praise for the pop star and her music. Several hundred words are dedicated to the times when Mick has met Tori Amos, and how he wanted to let her know how much of an inspiration she had been to his career. Should We Believe It: It seems very likely that Foley enjoyed listening to music which inspired him before matches. That kind of thing is common practice in wrestling and performance, because it can get a performer amped up to go out and do their thing. Mick Foley is no different, and given the words he's written in his various books, Tori Amos was almost a pre-match ritual for him.
