6. Hardcore Title Won By Foley Was WWF Title Smashed By Mr. Perfect
Story: The WWF Hardcore Title was introduced on the November 2nd, 1998 episode of Raw Is War. Given as a present from Vince McMahon to Mankind, the belt would go on to have a memorable near-four year run in the promotion, before being retired in 2002. As the story goes, the Hardcore Belt itself was an old copy of the 'Winged Eagle' WWF Heavyweight Championship that was once held by none other than Hulk Hogan. Reportedly, the Hardcore Title was cobbled together from scraps of the old title, one broken by Mr. Perfect on a Saturday Night's Main Event special in 1989. Smashing the title with a hammer, Perfect was directly trying to confront Hogan with his actions, and it's said that the remnants of the shattered gold made up the Hardcore belt handed to Mick Foley in '98. Why People Believe It: This is a plausible story, because the WWF/WWE have long kept many props and items used during infamous storylines. Articles have been written online theorising about the idea of the belt even being featured during various WrestleMania Fan Axxess events - alongside items such as the Corvette filled with concrete by Steve Austin - had it not been used as the Hardcore Title. Should We Believe It: This is still one that remains a mystery. It'd be nice if true, but not even Foley himself seems to know whether or not the Hardcore Title was a broken version of the WWF Title shattered all those years ago by Curt Hennig.
