10 Most Pointless WWE Returns
5. Bob Backlund
One of the longest-reigning WWE Champions in history, Bob Backlund will always have a seat waiting for him at the annual Hall of Fame ceremony's best table.
He also remains, to this day, a uniquely charismatic presence still capable of entertaining a wrestling crowd during the odd cameo appearance inside a WWE ring. His run last year as Darren Young's short-lived "life coach", however, wasn't exactly his best work.
This is sufficiently clear from the fact that Young was released last week after an absence from our screens of nearly one year, marking the end of his decade-long stint from the company despite, seemingly, having much to offer.
On paper, the surprise alliance was presumably supposed to help reignite the fire of Young's early, Nexus-driven run in 2010 - but it accomplished the exact opposite. Young simply became even more of an underdog, with much of the younger audience feeling little affinity for his new mentor.
