Rusev was the undefeated United States Champion when he ran into the brick wall known as John Cena. Though Rusev actually beat Cena in their first encounter at Fastlane 2015, forcing the 15-time world champion to pass out to the Accolade, Cena got his comeuppance at WrestleMania 31, pinning Rusev to become champion.
Cena defeated Rusev in a Russian chain rematch at Extreme Rules, and the two had one final bout - an "I Quit" match - at Payback. In that match, Cena trapped Rusev in the STF, while his manager Lana, claiming that Rusev was verbally submitting in Bulgarian, did the honors in English.
The following evening on Raw, Rusev was mad - and not at Cena. He claimed that he never submitted in any language, and that Lana was gone. Later in the show, though, after Dolph Ziggler scored a win over Stardust, "The Ravishing Russian" made her way to the ring - to kiss Dolph!
Fans began chanting "one more time" and Lana obliged, giving "The Showoff" another tender kiss. An infuriated Rusev ran out and laid Dolph out, but Lana slapped her former beau and Dolph came back with a Zig-Zag on "The Bulgarian Brute".
