And then there's Goldust. Don't let the watered-down character you see on WWE TV fool you: Goldust was, for several years during the 90s, the most bizarre and risqué wrestler in the industry. Dustin Runnels had a successful career in WCW before he was fired for blading without permission during the 1995 Uncensored pay-per-view. He resurfaced in the WWF in late 1995 as a drag queen-esque heel named Goldust. The mysterious Goldust would intimidate other wrestlers with his overt sexuality, fondling and groping them during matches. Goldust's first notable feud was with Razor Ramon, whom the gold one stalked and sent messages to. He even removed his outfit to display a heart-shaped tattoo dedicated to Ramon. Over the next few years Goldust would continue to trouble superstars with his predatory behaviour, causing Jerry Lawler to call him a 'flaming f**' live on air after he administered CPR to Ahmed Johnson. It was a taboo character that hit a nerve with many fans and wrestlers. Goldust, for his part, was committed to the gimmick and even at one point suggested to Vince McMahon that he get breast implants. It wasn't quite the Attitude Era when Goldust debuted but it was definitely a gimmick more in keeping with that time period. Dustin Runnels deserves a lot of credit for his dedication to the character and for pushing it to the lengths that he did.
