10 Most Shocking Double-Crossings In WWE History
2. Stephanie McMahon Turns On Vince McMahon
After Triple H had drugged Stephanie McMahon and wed her
without consent, you’d have thought that he’d be last on the list of people she’d
be looking to shack up with. Which I guess is why we probably should have
seen this coming in the wacky climate that was the Attitude Era.
At Armageddon 1999, after Triple H had taken out Vince McMahon in a bloody No Holds Barred match, it looked as though Stephanie was about to suffer a similar fate, as Triple H approached her with his sledgehammer raised high above his head.
In the nick of time though, she’d turn around. A look of shock soon gave way to a knowing smirk, and eventually a warm embrace with her supposed would-be assailant.
It later transpired that it had all been a ruse. The couple had been in cahoots all along. Stephanie had been completely aware of marrying Triple H, and had done so in spite of and to rebel against her father.
In one of the best-executed heel turns of all time, Stephanie stepped out from her “Daddy’s Little Girl” character and started showing a nasty side that has since become a staple of the modern day product. And it all began with a double-cross that was shocking enough to have fooled even Vince McMahon himself.
