10 Most Shocking Wrestling Betrayals

5. DX Degenerates

Four years after his career-ending back injury, Shawn Michaels reformed D-Generation X with long time pal Triple H. The two came out to the old DX theme, sporting DX shirts and performing the classic entrance on a July 2002 episode of RAW. Everything seemed fine and dandy as Triple H riled up the crowd for the faction’s signature catch phrase. Much to the shock and horror of the audience and the commentary team, Triple H hit the still retired Michaels with a Pedigree out of nowhere.

Instead of a stroll down nostalgia lane with a DX reunion, fans were about to get the most epic feud of the Ruthless Aggression Era. An incensed Michaels would make his return to the ring at SummerSlam and the two would engage in blood soaked battles for the next two years.

Triple H revealed he never considered Michaels his friend and had only stuck with him in the '90s to further his own career. Considering himself the bigger star of the two, Triple H no longer needed Michaels and began a lengthy heel run during which time he founded Evolution and embarked upon the infamous Reign of Terror.
