Eddie Guerrero's storybook run as WWE World Champion saw him defeat Kurt Angle at WrestleMania XX, but after the event, a new challenger emerged - tag team star Bradshaw, who had changed his name to John "Bradshaw" Layfield and taken on a J.R. Ewing-inspired persona. JBL challenged Eddie for the title at Judgment Day 2004, and the result was one of the most gruesome bouts in WWE history.

There was no storyline swerve or stunning debut - instead, there was a brutal chairshot to Guerrero's head and a bladejob by the champion that accidentally hit an artery. As a result, Eddie was soon drenched in his own blood, and while he continued to fight, the bout was hard to watch. When Eddie eventually hit JBL with the title belt in front of the referee, he was disqualified, but that wasn't what fans remembered about the match.

Eddie ended up going into shock as a result of the blood loss, keeping him from performing at full strength for two weeks.
